Night Portraits in Vienna: Working with City Light
When city light shapes the portrait
Shop windows, streetlights and reflections change the city after sunset. Night portraits offer different possibilities from daylight: stronger contrasts, coloured light sources and bright areas that stand out against a dark background.
For this series, we explored Schwedenplatz and the Danube Canal. Light, movement and urban structures come together there, making the surroundings an important part of the portrait.
Working with the light on location
At night, I mainly use the available light sources. If I add a flash, I balance it with the city light to preserve the atmosphere.
These pictures can feel more dramatic and cinematic. They suit people drawn to that mood, whether for a creative profile, a couples session or simply for themselves.
A place that means something to you
I particularly enjoy working with places that have a personal connection for you. We can explore what becomes possible there after dark and how to make the location part of your pictures.
If you already have somewhere in mind, tell me about it. You can see another deliberately shaped look in my studio character portraits.
